Salsamotion continues to hot up at Blackheath Newbridge Social Club! Last week was lovely and very atmospheric. Classes will carry on as normal this week – 4 levels – Beginners and Intermediates at 7.30, Improvers and Advanced at 8.30. Thank you for all the feedback about the classes, please keep them coming. We are glad that people are enjoying the slower build up of the first hour (breakdown of footwork, technique and repetition) and then ending up with a routine that everyone feels confident enough to execute and carry on to the next hour with ease. Please consider dropping a level if you are still seriously struggling with the routine after several attempts (not talking about remembering it, but rather executing it). We are also going to start on time (not 7 minutes late!) and finish on time – please feel free to remind the teachers if they are having too much fun and getting carried away . Beginners, please dont be in a rush to leave after the first class. Remember you can do the second hour for an extra two pounds, or you can stay and watch the classes and then join in the club/social dancing bit as that’s the only way you can get better.

As mentioned last week, there is a charity even at the Trafalgar Tavern, Park Row, Greenwich SE10 9NW in honour of Amanda Howells, someone who was very passionate about salsa but sadly died last year. The event is kindly organised by a supporter of Cancer Research UK. It starts at 7pm til midnight on Friday 3rd February 2012. Tickets are £12 in aid of Cancer Research and African and Caribbean Leukamia Trust. They are available from Louise on 07811 251 993 or Maggie on 07989 052 201. There will hopefully be smaller flyers for you to take away on Wednesday.

Salsa is hotting up at Blackheath Newbridge Social Club!!

A certain lyric sprung to mind today “…. it may be winter outside but in my heart its spring …” That’s how it’s feeling at the moment once you’re in the club!!

Thanks to everyone who came out to play last week despite the delays with the accident at Sun in the Sands. It was such a lovely atmosphere and was really good to see all the old regulars to who came back. Thanks to Barbara and Linda for their help, always appreciated and all the others “behind the scene” ).

This week the classes carry on as normal – there will be 4 classes – Beginners and Intermediates at 7.30 and Improvers and Advanced at 8.30. This is always a good opportunity for beginners who would like to do a second class and learn more turn patterns so they can do Beginners at 7.30 and Improvers at 8.30. It is also good for intermediates who would like to do an intermediate class for the first hour but wind down in the second hour by mastering their spinning/turning techniques if they feel that the Advanced class will be too challenging so they can do Intermediates at 7.30 and Improvers at 8.30. Then finally – advanced students who want to learn/clarify/master their techniques, learn the shines/footwork we often use and warm up for the advanced class are strongly advised to come to the Intermediate class first at 7.30 and then stay on for the Advanced at 8.30. There are more detailed information and description of all the classes on our website www.salsamotion.co.uk Our aim is to make sure that everyone is in the right class to ensure ultimate enjoyment by all! Club is from 9.30 till 11. Please dont be in a hurry to go, stay for a few dances. DJ Mark will be playing.

Happy New Year to you all again. Just a quick message to remind you all that Salsamotion is on this (11th Jan 2012) and every Wednesday and we’re planning to carry on working up some sweat to burn off all those chocolate cakes ).

Classes this week – Beginners and Intermediates at 7.30, Advanced at 8.30. Special thank you to Newton Brown (Bomb) for the wicked classes last week and wasnt it just a lovely surprise to see Steevo turn up unannounced! Club will be from 9.30 till 11 with DJ Mark spinning some tunes.

Ps. there are one or two lost properties that we picked up a couple of weeks ago, please come and claim them if you’ve lost something!

Hi all

A very quick message to remind you all that Salsamotion is back on this Wednesday 14th December at Blackheath Newbridge Social Club, 22 Charlton Road, SE3 7HG. It will be our last night before Christmas and we will resume after the New Year on the 4th January 2012.

It will be an exciting night – fun classes, Cuban La Rueda (the wheel) with Simon Mascarenhas and lots to eat and drink. If you’ve done Simon’s la rueda before you will remember how much fun they are. And DJ Mark will also be spinning some wicked tunes. So, come on down. We will also be closing half an hour later, so more boogie time.

As usual feel free to bring some munchies – mince pies, cakes, biscuits or any festive nibbles or indeed non festive ones – even curry, nan bread, etc!! All welcome! Lol! We will have a table set for food and can make it a buffet. You dont have to bring anything as there is usually lots to eat. Its just a social thing.

Thank you for all your support over the years and in particular over the last couple of months. And just in case we dont get round to giving a hug to everyone, we take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Hi everyone!!!

Some good news at last! We have found a new venue and without wasting any more time we reopened on Wed 9th November.

Thank you to everyone who’s been emailing, facebooking, texting, phoning, praying, patiently waiting, looking for venues, suggesting venues and practising your steps knowing we are going to work you hard at the re-launch (lol)…

After checking out other venues we have decided to go with this one as its less than 10 minutes from Sahara, so hopefully everyone that found Sahara central can still get to it but also it will be easy enough for other people. Its lovely inside and is like a smaller version of Sahara, with a nice floor, cosy chairs round the dance floor, mirrors for you to watch yourselves during the warm up/down. It also has some parking at the venue, but free parking outside on the yellow. A special thank you to Barbara and Linda who suggested the venue. The address is Blackheath Newbridge Social Club, 22 Charlton Road, SE3 7HG. It’s just by Blackheath Standard, on the left before you get to Barclays Bank (if you’re coming from Charlton) and on the right if you’re coming from Blackheath or Lewisham.

Please spread the word especially to people who are not on the mailing list. The Christmas party will be a fun night – Beginners and Intermediates at 7.30, Improvers and Advanced at 8.30. We are hoping to do a short la rueda session after (20 mins possibly) just to get everyone on the dance floor. Club till 11, possibly 11.30 on the night.
